It is also pre-stretched, so it will not sag or stretch over time when installed taut.

Yes. The netting is designed to be cut to size with ordinary scissors (no special tools), and it will not fray or unravel when trimmed, thanks to its heat-strengthened knots. This makes DIY installs easy.

Note: if you cut the separate 5mm polyethylene edging rope, it is best to lightly treat the cut end to stop it unravelling.

The netting has a 19mm x 19mm (about 3/4 inch) square mesh - the maximum safe hole size for cats. It is designed to stay taut, which also helps minimise the risk of birds or wildlife getting tangled.

For kittens 6 months and under, we recommend they are not left unattended for long periods, as they can fit through the mesh while small.

The Angled Fence Extension Bracket is about 900mm vertical with a 650mm angled extension, 25mm thick, with plastic end caps. It has two pre-drilled holes (6mm) for fixing to your fence post and two more for the wire to pass through, plus self-tightening eyelet screws for turnbuckle attachment.

Use one bracket per fence post, or a maximum of one every 3 metres.

For most installs - especially permanent ones on a house or solid structure - a stainless steel wire rope system is best: it is strong, flexible and can be tensioned tightly to keep the netting secure. Polyethylene rope suits lighter or temporary setups.

Tip: once tensioned, cable-tie each end so it holds.

The powder-coated steel frame clicks together with a tool-free pin-lock system, and the netting attaches with Velcro straps. The net is suspended inside the frame so it sits taut, and the fully stitched webbing along the bottom seals the ground edge to prevent escapes.

Most enclosures take around 30 minutes with two people.

Catios are built with a robust steel frame for stability. On windy days - especially if a shade sail is attached - keep an eye on it, as it can catch the wind. Do not attach a tarpaulin or other flat waterproof cover to the roof.

Cat netting is an open mesh designed for containment, not weather protection, so it is not waterproof and will not keep rain out on its own. Shade sails provide shade but are also not waterproof.

If you want rain cover, a separate waterproof cover is available that fits over the top of the enclosure (it is designed for the top, not the sides). Ask us and we will point you to the right cover for your enclosure.

For a small, isolated hole or loose strand, you can patch it by lacing a piece of spare netting over the damaged area with binding twine - overlap the hole and secure it to the surrounding intact netting so there are no gaps or loose edges.

For a larger damaged section, order netting by the metre (AU) or by the foot (US) to patch or replace that area. Zip ties remain the recommended way to secure netting and corners.

For significant damage - large tears, or damage to a zipper, binding or frame - or if you are unsure the enclosure is still secure, contact us before reusing it and we will help.

Each strand has roughly 50 lbs (about 23 kg) breaking strain. Across a net that is tensioned and fixed on all four sides, it holds far more than a single strand - well over double.

The stainless-steel-reinforced netting has a similar breaking strain to the standard netting but is more abrasion-resistant and a better deterrent for determined or persistent cats.
